The new baby Power Stroke shares many features with Land Rover’s small diesel, and it offers 30 mpg on the highway. How is that possible? It makes 250 horsepower and only 440 lb-ft of torque at 1,750 rpm. That translates into incredible pulling power along with the ability to idle on the highway.
It uses the same compacted graphite iron block and forged bottom end of the EcoBoost series along with a variable geometry turbo. The common-rail injectors are ready for 29,000 psi, and the system has twin fuel filters for years of reliability. For the ultimate validation of the new engine, tested it at the Davis Dam in Arizona. A 6% grade for over 13 miles in the triple-digit heat was no problem.
