Vaughn Gittin Jr., 32, has always had a passion for motorsports, and with that comes a high rate of adrenaline. If you don’t know who he is, you might start now because he is extremely iconic to the world of drifting. In fact, Gittin is currently the only American to win two D1 Grand Prix events. In 2005 he astounded the world when he won the D1GP USA vs. Japan, and again in 2007, when he competed in won the D1GP World Championship. Gittin, an American self-taught drifter from Maryland, is 6’2’’ and 215 pounds. His frame seems to coincide well with his aggressive, no-BS driving style. “People say I have this aggressive and crazy driving style,” says Gittin, “and I definitely like to drive hard and leave it all on the track, so it’s flattering when people see that.”
Gittin seems to have always loved exotic cars starting from when he was young, racing go-karts and tearing open packages of Matchbox cars he got for his birthday. Then after watching several videos of drifting in Japan, Gittin had finally discovered a place in which he could express himself: in the front seat of a racing car. “Once I realized I was pretty good at it, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue professionally and started to chase the dream,” says Gittin. “I did the best I could to teach myself and understand how the business end of the job worked and would go around and self-promote myself in the beginning.”
In 2009 he became the new face of the Ford Mustang, and in 2010 he unveiled the newest version onstage as he drifted it on live TV. In 2010, Vaughn introduced the Mustang RTR, a new generation of Mustang that is currently available at Ford Dealers worldwide.
