Move over Roddick, there’s a new face in town. He’s just 26-years-old and is climbing the ladder of fame–and quickly too. Andy Murray, born in Glasgow, Scotland, has become a well-known name thanks to hard work and outstanding talent. Murray is currently ranked the No. 2 tennis player in the world, and he is the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry won the last of three in a row in 1936. He did this by defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Murray now has two major championships adding to his last year’s U.S. Open title.
Murray picked up the sport in elementary school, and entered his first tournament, Florida’s Orange Bowl, at 12-years-old and won. He only became better and in 2004, he was named BBC’s “Young Sports Personality of the Year.” In 2005, Murray became the youngest player to compete in the Davis Cup. Then in 2007, Murray proved he was a big deal when he defeated Roger Federer in Round 2 of the Cincinnati Masters tournament and Andy Roddick in the semifinals of the SAP Open. By 2012, Murray had already won more than 20 ATP titles. Pretty impressive.
After winning Wimbledon, Murray is set to win big from sponsorships and endorsement deals. It’s estimated that his earnings will double from $11 million to nearly $23 million, with a total networth of $47.6 million. Murray has current sponsorship deals with kit supplier adidas, tennis racket supplier Head, Royal Bank of Scotland and the Swiss watch brand, Rado. His good looks make him appealing to sponsors who want to market to people all over the world. Nigel Currie, director of sports marketing agency brandRapport says that tennis is one of the most global sports around. “It reaches every country,” says Currie. “Therefore the top players in those sports, their names and their faces, are known throughout the planet.”
Murray has proven that when you fail, you must keep trying. After all, the greatest of the greatest have experienced failure and rejection many times before succeeding. Last year Murray lost to Roger Federer, but bounced back quickly to win the Olympic gold at the 2012 Olympics in London and the U.S. Open. This proves that Murray isn’t just a lucky guy. He’s got determination and astounding talent.
Murray is currently dating Kim Sears, a fashion icon and model. Not only does Murray have a beautiful girlfriend, but he also owns beautiful cars and homes. He owns two properties. One is an $8.1 million mansion in Surrey. It has six bedrooms, an indoor pool, cinema, game room, library and a sauna. The property expands into a summerhouse with a triple garage space.
His second home is a penthouse in South Florida that looks out onto the Atlantic Ocean and locates in Miami’s Brickell area. He moved there for its convenience, simplicity and sense of community. “I come here to do my off-season training in December, and then I also come in the summer after Wimbledon,” says Murray. The Jade Condo in Brickell is a 48-story high-rise with crème marble floors, huge water view balconies, a private foyer, high-speed private elevators, a luxury spa, a rooftop sky lounge and an infinity-edge pool. Is there even a question of why Murray has a second home here? It sounds like heaven on earth.
Murray has also made news for purchasing the $3 million mansion in Dunblane that’s nearly 2,000 acres. Formerly run as the Cromlix House Hotel, Murray plans to refurbish the property, alleviating its status to a 15-room five star luxury hotel.
And last, but certainly not least, are Murray’s luxury cars that he seems to always be exchanging for another. He began with a red Ferrari F430 Spider after a short breakup with Sears in 2009. He was just 22-years-old and bought it for $125,000, but sold it because it was too flashy for him. He then purchased a $200,000 Aston Martin. He soon replaced that with a Jaguar XKR and owns a Porsche Cayenne that he lets Sears drive most of the time.
Murray is living the good life and proves to be an admirable and inspirational figure to fans around the world. How is this for motivation?
