English golfer Luke Donald is getting ready to tee-off in Shanghai October 24th-27th for the famous BMW Masters. Donald led the world rankings for a total of 56 weeks in 2011 and 2012, and while he may not be in the lead as of now, he is looking to change this with a strong finish at the BMW Masters. Along with this tournament, the WGC – HSBC Champions, Turkish Open and the DP World Tour Championship Dubai finale combine for ‘The Final Series’ of the European Tour, a series that offers a prize fund of $30.5 million.
In an Oct. 11 press release from BMW, Donald said, “I have nothing but fond memories of BMW tournaments. That is partly down to the excellent atmosphere that BMW always achieves, and partly the two BMW PGA Championship wins back home in England, which will always be particularly important to me. The BMW Championship at my home club of Conway Farms was also a special experience for me, especially given my fantastic finish that earned me a place at the TOUR Championship. I finished in a very good third place behind Peter Hanson and Rory McIlroy at the BMW Masters last year. I would obviously like to go one better and win this time round. I enjoy playing in China and it is a good course – it would be a nice place to win such a prestigious title.”
While Donald may currently be 28th place in the “Race to Dubai” rankings, he is showing signs of a return to form. He had quite the outing at the BMW Championship where he tied for fourth place, and is looking to continue his success. Be sure to see Donald in action October 24th-27th at the Lake Malaren Golf Club for the BMW Masters.
